⚓ The Controlled Descent Procedure
Swing-Out & Preparation
The Davit arm is swung outboard using a manual or hydraulic crank. The rigid life raft is then brought to the embarkation deck level for safe boarding.
Internal Survival Gear Check
Before lowering, verify the presence of the survival gear pack, including pyrotechnics, drinking water, and buoyancy chamber integrity.
Gravity-Controlled Lowering
Using the centrifugal brake, the raft is lowered at a constant speed. This prevents "pendulum swinging" which can cause the raft to strike the ship's hull.
